Home safety encompasses a number of very important topics that include child safety, fire safety and home security. This is the place where you will host your children and the rest of your family – you need to make sure that it is safe to stay in at any point of time !
Below are five things that every home owner should always have and should check in the event of purchasing or renting a new house.
Place at least one fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Keep it in an easily accessible place that is out of kids reach.
Carbon Monoxide Alarm
Install and maintain these alarms. Ensure that they are placed near the floor as carbon monoxide is a heavier gas.
It is a good idea to have at least a three day supply of emergency supplies. This should include supplies for every member of the family, including pets. If there is a baby in the house, make sure to include pampers, wipes, formula etc. Top priorities should be water, food and medical supplies.
This doesn’t have to be an expensive system that requires professional installation and monitoring. Any early alarm device is better than nothing. Place these on doors, windows and sliding glass doors.
Means of Self-Defense
This could be a legally registered firearm, knife or baseball bat. Having one that you are familiar with and can use effectively is best.
